What is CrossFit?

CrossFit will change your life in ways that far exceed physical fitness.  Not only will it change you physically, it will improve your self confidence, your mentality, and it will allow you to believe that you are capable of more than you ever thought before.   We here at CrossFit Alaska have trained athletes of every age and ability.  Whether your goal is to run a 5K, do your first pull up, stay active with your family, or simply live a life free of aches and pains, CrossFit Alaska is ready to help you every step of the way.

The Workouts

The health and fitness needs of our grandparents and elite athletes differ by degree not by kind.  CrossFit Alaska delivers a fitness program that is, by design, broad, general and inclusive.  Our specialty is not specializing.  We scale load and intensity and we modify movements as appropriate; we don’t change programs.

We Alaskans are active people!  The CrossFit Alaska community consists of hikers, hunters, skiers, mountain bikers, triathletes, and stay at home parents who have all found their best fitness and improved their health and wellness all from the same regimen.   While everyone here at CrossFit Alaska loves a great workout, we know that it is the people that we share those workouts with that really make it worth it.  Whatever the reason is that brings you through our doors, we know that it is our welcoming and supportive community that will keep you coming back. 

Why It Works

Constant variation in daily workouts ensures that not only are you getting a well-rounded training program, but that injury, burn out and boredom are far less likely.  Our programming brings together methodology from various avenues of fitness.  Strength training, metabolic conditioning, and body weight movements are at the core of what we do and, in combination, allow members a full spectrum of health and wellness.

This program focuses on safe, effective, and efficient movements that are similar to those that you use daily.  Squatting, pressing, jumping, and pulling are just a few of the types of movements that you will be taught how to perform correctly and how they apply to your everyday life.  From hauling that 50-pound bag of dog food to picking your toddler up off the floor, the foundational movements that you learn in CrossFit will carry over to anything and everything you do.

While the term ‘high intensity’ can be daunting to many, it needs to be understood that intensity is a relative term.  What is high intensity for one person might be considered a walk in the park for another.  The beauty of CrossFit, and the programming that we follow, is that athletes from every walk of life can benefit from the very same workout.  Since reps, loading and time domains will be adjusted for the individual, the fittest people and the first timers can train right next to each other and everyone gets fitter in a safe and supportive environment.
